How casino cashback is worked out
Cashback is a percentage of your net loss over a period, paid after the period closes. A daily rebate settles the next day, a weekly one on a fixed weekday, a monthly one at the start of the following month. Unlike a deposit match, it only arrives when you are down, which makes it the one promotion whose value you can calculate after the fact rather than before.
The phrase net loss is doing a lot of work in that sentence, and operators define it in more than one way. Some count stakes minus returns on real money play. Others count deposits minus withdrawals minus the balance left in the account. On the same week of play those two formulas produce different numbers, so the definition is the first thing to ask for.

What 5%, 10% and 20% cashback pays on a $1,000 loss
The rates below are there to show the shape of the arithmetic, not because any brand in the table publishes them. Run a net loss of $1,000 through four rates, then through a $100 ceiling, then through a multiple of 30x in case the credit arrives as bonus funds rather than money.

The third column is what a ceiling does: at a $100 cap, 15% and 20% are the same offer as 10%, and the extra rate is decoration. The fourth column is the one people skip. A 20% rebate paid as bonus funds at 30x asks for $6,000 of stake before any of it can leave the account, which is not a rebate so much as a reason to keep playing.
Cash or bonus funds: the word that decides everything
If a rebate is credited as cash, it is ordinary money in the balance and you can withdraw it. If it is credited as bonus funds, it is a bonus with a modest headline, and it inherits whatever conditions the operator attaches to bonus money. Those conditions are visible in this table even though the rebates are not.

Cashback or a deposit match: which is worth more
They pay on opposite events, which is the whole comparison. A match pays when you deposit, so you know the amount in advance and accept a turnover figure to get it. A rebate pays when you lose, so the amount is unknown in advance and, if it comes as cash, carries no turnover at all. Get the rate in writing before the period starts
A rebate described in a chat window is not a term. Ask for the rate, the cap, the form and the period in an email, and check the credit against your own record of the period rather than against the figure you remember being quoted.
One point of law worth holding while comparing any of this.
