Progressive and fixed jackpots are not the same prize
A fixed jackpot is part of the pay table. Land the combination and you are paid a stated multiple of the bet that landed it, which means a smaller bet wins a proportionally smaller prize and a larger bet a larger one. Nothing accumulates and nothing is shared with other players.
A progressive jackpot is a pool. Every qualifying bet adds a small share to it, the pool grows until it is won, and then it resets to a seed value and starts again. The prize therefore has nothing to do with the size of the bet that wins it, which is why the two types call for completely different decisions at the stake selector.

The bet size that qualifies for the jackpot
This is the detail that decides whether the jackpot is a prize or decoration. Games handle it in three ways, and the game's own information screen says which one applies.
- A minimum qualifying bet. Below the stated stake the jackpot cannot be won at all. You still contribute nothing and win nothing from the pool, while paying the same base game return.
- Proportional eligibility. Every stake qualifies, but the share you can win, or the odds of triggering the pool, scale with the bet. Doubling the stake doubles the contribution and the exposure.
- Any stake, feature triggered. The jackpot sits inside a bonus round that any qualifying spin can reach, so the stake sets the prize only where the prize is a multiple of the bet.
- A tiered rule. Mini and minor tiers are open to any bet while the top tier needs the maximum, which is the arrangement most often misread at a glance.

What the jackpot contribution takes out of the base game

On a standard progressive, each spin draws independently and a large pool is not overdue. A must-drop jackpot is the exception, because the game itself states a trigger by time or by amount, and that trigger is published rather than inferred.
